Hi All,

What did you think of the books you read in August?

A's = 3
B's = 6
C's = 1

1. How many books did you read? 10

2. What genres come to the fore? Mainstream Suspense Thrillers

3. What was your favorite book of the month?

"Bad Luck and Trouble" by Lee Child (5/07)
[Reacher - 11] [Neagley - 2] (A+ Kisses+)
My 3rd or 4th Re-Read hasn't gone stale yet.

4. What was the worst book you read this month?

"The Catch" by Taylor Stevens (7/14)
[Vanessa "Michael" Munroe - 4] (C+ N/A - Violent)
International Thriller - Piracy - Sting - Kenya
Repetitive

5. Who was your favorite book boyfriend in August?

Sam Capra is a good friend to have whether you are male or female.

"Inside Man" by Jeff Abbott (7/14)
[Sam Capra - 4] (A Implied Sex)
Thriller - Human Trafficking - Miami - Brazil

6. Were there any characters you didn't care for?

Andrea, the Austin detective on administrative leave after shooting and killing a teenager who was going to kill his ex-girlfriend where she works. Andrea kept breaking her appointments for psych evaluation, standard procedure for any officer involved shooting. I was getting as exasperated with her as her boss.

"Far Gone" by Laura Griffin (4/14)
[Tracers - 6.5] (B Warm)

I did get a laugh while reading this book. At one point Andrea has a knock on the door and she's digging around in a bag of Hershey's Miniatures "looking for Mr. Goodbar" ... and I was doing the very same thing at the same time I was reading that scene, same flavor! LOL I've never before bought that kind of candy but it was on sale at Albertsons 2/$5.00 recently. Life imitating art. I loved it.

The author writes really good atmosphere. Those stake-out scenes in the desert had me feeling as miserable as it must have for the cops, all that dirt and sweat. However, that love scene was ill-timed to me and I'll let it go at that so as not to SPOIL this for other readers.

7. Who was your favorite villain?

The killer was so cold and calculating, letting nothing or no one get in the way of the revenge sought. Didn't seem crazy til the end of the book.

"The Dead Will Tell" by Linda Castillo (7/14)
[Kate Burkholder - 6] (B N/A) Violence
Suspense - PD - Amish - Ohio - 1st POV - Revenge

8. Who was your favorite heroine (kick-ass or not) this month?

Lila (?) the deep cover American Special Agent dealing with an identity crisis with no time to decompress before having to keep on with the work. I didn't take notes and can't find her name in any reviews online, so guessing here.

"Bravo" by Greg Rucka (7/14)
[A Jad Bell Novel - 2] (A Warm)
Military Thriller - Counterterrorism

Read "Alpha" first if this is a new series being started.

@Hopeless Romantic - My friends on Shelfari were talking about Lisa Clark O'Neill books. They highly recommended them. Glad to see you "second" their recommendation.

@Janie - Love your Mr. Goodbar story. :lol:

Robin, one of those unexpected book reading moments that you never see coming. I missed not having my Mom here to share it with at the time. Thanks for laughing with me.

Robin--'Obsession' is actually book 5 in Lisa Clark O'Neill's Southern Comfort series, so now I am working my way backwards. I have book 2, 'Forbidden', on my Kindle now and will be reading it soon. Fingers crossed it is as enjoyable as 'Obsession'!
