I had several recommendations for Bone Deep by Bonnie Dee. It is a very different story line (at least one I've never come across). Set in 1946, the heroine is a war widow, the hero a carnival "attraction" - he has his entire body tattooed.

There were several things I loved about this book. The writing for the first 2/3 was great. The storyline - again for the first 2/3 - was great. Then something happened. I don't know if the author got bored or what, but it changed.

The last 1/3 had:

(1) Several topics started and not finished or fleshed out
(2) A very abrupt resolution to part of the story involving the bad guy
(3) There was no ending

So, no ending...the story just stopped. There was partial resolution, but you don't see how everything ended up. It almost felt like a ploy to get you to buy another book, but there is no followup book.

Up until the last 1/3 of the book I would have rated this one a 4-4.5 out of 5. However, after the last part I'd only rate it a 2.

Don't you just hate that?
