I don't fit all of these. I've never had a guest leave a book behind because most of my guests are non-readers. Also, I never had a problem returning book to the library.

However, I can't write in books at all!!

My mother always made sure we return our books back to the libray.

I can't write in my books.

Thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure I went through all of those stages but I definitely am at the last. I freely read what I want. Period.

I've not gone thru all the stages either. I've never had a problem taking a book back to the library because it meant I could check out more books! I got my first library card when I was nine & there was a 4-book checkout limit. After six weeks of taking my 4 back & checking out another 4 twice a week, the librarian said she was lifting the limit for me & I could check out as many as I wanted. Loved that small-town library & librarian!!

I don't write in books either (except I have made notes in text books that belonged to me...not ones that belonged to the school) and while it wasn't on the list, I don't dog-ear pages or crack spines either...that drives me nuts.

I also never was ashamed of anything I was reading. (sometimes I wasn't too thrilled with the cover art..but Oh, well.) That was probably from growing up in an entire family of readers. I had access to books in probably every genre (fiction & non-fiction) from classics to old 10cent paperbacks that belonged to my grandmother and my uncles and both my parents. If anyone ever saw me reading a book & said that they never read "trashy" romance books (or mysteries, or fantasy, or whatever) I told them that was too bad because they just didn't know what they were missing.
