Who's calling it chick lit? Why all the shouty caps??
Why be "cheesed off" if you're not even interested in reading FS??

I'm more annoyed by Nicholas Sparks books getting hyped. Tragic love stories depressing as hell. I loved Love Story tho. Cried buckets. So get why that was popular. Youth, Love, Romeo and Juliet like tragedy.

I think maybe those who are picking up on this and aren't familiar with romance and romance sub genres aren't sure how to label it.

And, Erika, I know. I tried Nicholas Sparks. Any author who writes love stories that ALWAYS end in tragedy is just not for me. Life is depressing enough. I think maybe part of his success is the Oprah hype. Just my opinion.

OK Klass, we all get that you are not a Shades fan, and a lot of us (me, admittedly) are with you. Your posts make me laugh and read a book quite often.

However, this is a FAVORITES board, and this post is not about anything favorite, so why don't you post on the Roundtable, where not so favorites can be discussed, and no one will be offended?

I might not be able to resist a cheese off response if you want to move this over there.

Look it's not that I am NOT a Shades fan, (I read the first chapter, didn't grab me, so what), I personally don't see what the fuss is about... but that's not my point.

My annoyance is the fact that calling it CHICK LIT is an insult to not only the author, but to us romance fans who, are always "looked upon" by some in the world, who scoff at romance, and now they feel the need to justify that they are NOT actually reading romance, but CHICK LIT!.

I am annoyed purely from a Romance Reader (and for the authors) perspective.

Again I think it an insult to re-name the genre for the sake of the masses who are now reading romance / romantica, but would still deny it with their last breath (trust me there are women around me who would never have read romance and are now raving about 50 Shades, but still when I say I love romance books, I still get the "look")

So again I say, I don't not LIKE Shades, I just don't like the way it being portrayed in mainstream. Also, those that refer to it as "mommy porn" like it's trash and should be in the shed with guys skin mags,

It's also the fact that they need to justify/rename, the fact that they are reading romance. :?

Please, it's just about calling a spade a spade. That's all!

So again nothing against those who have read and loved it, my main pain, is that those who have never read romance before, have to justify to themselves why they read it. Sorry if it's seems I was totally bagging the series, I didn't mean it that way. :(

Sorry I just get annoyed, by hypocritical morons, and if I am being one, let me know and I'll own it. Sometimes what you want to say gets lost in your own mind... so comes out wrong. :|

@Teri, sorry mate, I so don't notice the titles of the boards    , thanks for for hittin' me over the head with that, I'll be sure to be more mindfull next time, what a 'nuff.

I just got on a rant and posted on where books are talked about more... me being totally oblivious..... I'm still laughing at my self..... thanks again for the "heads up" :D

I'd now move it to Roundtable  , but I don't know how.....

PS That's It I'm done, I promise not comment anymore on 50 Shades... if I do you have my permission to howl me down and call me on it....

Funny the bdsm erotica readers don't want it labeled that. Some romance readers are offended it represents romance. And other critics call it mommy porn! The drama FSa inspires!!

As long as they don't call it "young adult", I don't care what they call it. The term "chick lit" has kind of a perjorative ring to it so I don't like that at all. It sounds like a term men would think up or maybe feminist women.

So true Linda---I also think chick lit was a term men or feminist came up with

I don't care what they call it. I think it is funny that most do not know what to call it, so obviously, they have never read anything in the romance department. They have labelled it anything from mommy porn to bondage to chick lit. Why can't people that want to read it, read it for what it is, enjoy it or not, and forget the labels!
