For week No. 6, the author of the week is:

Karen Marie Moning

Karen Marie Moning is a # 1 New York Times bestselling author of 15 novels, including the RITA award-winning Highlander novels and the internationally bestselling urban fantasy "Fever" series. Her books have been published in nearly 40 languages, and her events draw fans from all over the world.

Moning graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Society and Law. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a bartender, a computer consultant, and an insurance specialist.

Moning began her career writing paranormal romance set in Scotland but as she became increasingly fascinated with Celtic mythology, she switched genres to Urban Fantasy and location to Dublin, Ireland, so she could focus on the Tuatha de Danann, or Fae--an ancient race of immortal beings who have lived secretly among humans for millennia.

Moning recently completed a graphic novel for Del Rey, featuring an original story about MacKayla Lane and Jericho Barrons, and the first installment in a new Fever World trilogy, ICED. She is under contract with Random House Publishing for two additional books set in the Fever universe.

Hi All,

These Author of the Week topics are speeding by fast. I haven't even had a chance to get all my JAK and AQ books sorted out from last week and time now for a new author. Whew!

But this will be an easy week for me since I've only read one of the books.

I bought the book new before the ratings were issued at AAR (D- Hot) and TRR (2-Hearts-R) (I miss this review site so much!!!); else I might have not taken the plunge. Although I did and do like the cover a lot. How shallow is that?

The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning (10/02)
[Magic Highlanders - 5] (D- Hot) [10-19-02]
New-to-me-Author
TT - European Renaissance

Here's the addy to the RT Review (4-1/2 Stars) and shows the cover:

I've only read Moning's Highlander series. I liked them for the most part. I thought the books Kiss of the Highlander and The Dark Highlander were the best of that series. The first book ended with a surprise and I couldn't wait to jump right into the next book.

Right now I'm collecting her Fever series. I've heard many good things about it.

I have read Karen's Highlander series and Fever series and absolutely LOVE them!! The hard part is waiting so long between books. Would definitely recommend people read them because you won't be disappointed.

I've enjoyed everything she's written plus her website LOL. I used to read the posts on her message board but I usually get bored with it after time passes after a book has been published. She was born in Cincinnati so I have to like her LOL. I think if you have never read her books, you should start with her Highlander series because they segue nicely into her Fever series. In all honesty the last of her Fever series were almost too involved for me. I would have liked them cut back a bit but that's just me. Her latest series with Dani (?) is really good also and it spins off from the Fever series. She's another author who takes too darned long to write her books.

I didn't read any of her Highlander series only the Fever series and I enjoyed it. Didn't know much about her until I read the post above, thanks for the extra info.

I'm falling behind!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Karen Marie Moning!! When I first read her FEVER series I struggled with it because I was NOT a fan of urban fantasy - well times have changed and urban fantasy is now one of my favorite genres!!

I am planning a re-read on the FEVER series before BURNED comes out - to refresh my memories - and yes she takes WAY too long to get her books written. :?

I have to admit that I totally loved ICED - the first of the Dani series - I know a lot of people didn't care for it, maybe because I listened to the MP3 and the narration was amazing?? Anyway she is one of my all time favorite authors but by this time she should have 30 books out - not just 15!! IMHO!!

From memory Karen Marie Moning has suffered some sort of serious illness for quite some time and she struggles to get things done in "the normal time".

Yes I do remember reading that as well - I think it is Lyme Disease - she had a really long drawn out battle a few years ago and while I know she got to feeling better, I'm not so sure you ever completely recover from Lyme or maybe you just go into a form of remission. This is a very solid reason why she doesn't write as quickly as other authors, but I enjoy her books so much I am impatient!!

She's such a fabulous author, but the Fever series irked me beyond reason because I got hooked and hated waiting so long for the next installment. Now, I never buy "cliff hanger" books until the entire series is complete.

However, hearing she may suffer from an auto-immune, I feel bad. Those can be so debilitating. It's hard to get up out of bed some days much less write complex stories.

All that said, try her out. She's an extremely gifted writer.
